Lipstick and Chocolate

These are a few of my favorite things....So on Nightline the other night they said that sales of red lipstick and candy go up during times of recession. During the great depression cosmetic sales rose 25%. People apparently find pleasure in little things during bad economic times, so throw on some red lipstick and grab a bar of chocolate. You are sure to feel better, and pretty!

Pasty by Choice!

I don't like the sun and the sun doesn't like me. I burn. I sweat. It hurts my eyes. I like it while sitting under a nice big umbrella maybe, but that's about it. Because of this, I rarely have a tan. Not a real one at least, but the kind that come in a bottle are just fine with me. Visit www.pastybychoice.com to learn more about skin cancer caused by the sun and tanning. I hate the word pasty though! I prefer, beautiful ivory skin. Ivory by choice! Anyway, it's great website with lots of information and they sell Pasty by Choice merchandise to promote taking care of your skin and a portion of the proceeds go to skin cancer awareness.

Gavin is coming! Gavin is coming!

Gavin who?! Well Rossdale of course! Lead singer of Bush, husband of Gwen, father of Kingston and Zuma, easy on the eyes...Gavin! He will be performing at the House of Blues in Houston on Sunday May 24th at 8 pm. Let's just hope he sings some Bush songs and not only his new stuff, though what I've heard of it is great. I just prefer the old stuff, but I'd probably pay just to watch him sit silently on the stage. Go to the House of Blues website for more information and to purchase tickets.

Product Recommendation: Easy PC by Comfy

My almost 2 year old daughter recently received this as a gift and she loves it. The keyboard attaches to your computer and it is very easy to set up. It comes with one game but you can buy a variety of others. It has little stories for them to follow and interact with involving colors, shapes, animals, and many other acitivities as well. There are games available for ages 1 - 5. Ours was purchased at Imagination Toys in Houston. Visit the Comfy website to read more and find out where to buy one near you.

I Hate to Cook!

But I love to eat! I recently started trying to use my crockpot more because I thought that would be the perfect way to cook without really having to cook. I found this great turkey chili recipe for the crockpot. It's low fat too! Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 pound ground turkey
1 (10.75 ounce) can low sodium tomato soup
1 (10.75 ounce) can diced tomatoes
2 (15 ounce) cans kidney beans, drained
1 (15 ounce) can black beans, drained
1/2 medium onion, chopped
2 tablespoons chili powder
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
1/2 tablespoon ground cumin
1 pinch ground black pepper
1 pinch ground allspice
salt to taste

Directions:
1. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place turkey in the skillet, and cook until evenly brown; drain.
2. Coat the inside of a slow cooker with cooking spray, and mix in turkey, tomato soup, kidney beans, black beans and onion. Season with chili powder, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, cumin, black pepper, allspice and salt.
3. Cover, and cook 8 hours on Low or 4 hours on High.

*If you like it spicy, put up to a teaspoon of red pepper flakes. You can also use a can of tomatoes with green chilis instead of the regular diced tomatoes.

Solar Cooker Project

I recently read about this great project. It is called the Solar Cooker Project and it is dedicated to protecting and empowering the women of Darfur. Women in Darfur are often attacked, raped and even killed when going out on their own to collect firewood for cooking. Collecting firewood is something they must do to cook for their family, but it is often very dangerous. This project provides solar cookers to these women and families so they do not have to go out for firewood. It also allows the women the opportunity to make an income by learning how to make the cookers, train others to use them, and make carrying bags for them. What an amazing project! A $30 donation will provide two solar cookers for a family, two pots, two pot holders, a year supply of plastic bags and skills training for refugee women and girls. Learn more on their website.

You're Dirty!

I read this in Redbook Magazine the other day and thought it was interesting. It said that a study by the University of Colorado at Boulder found that women have a greater variety of bacteria on their hands than men do. Um.....DUH! Women do so much more and come in contact with so much more that of course they have dirtier hands! Right ladies?!
